Top Ten Fashion Mistakes That Women Make

Top Ten Fashion Mistakes That Women Make
Think about how many of these “fashion mistakes” are in the Starbucks line with you! Just be careful that you are not the one making the mistakes!
1. Women hang on to clothes that no longer suit their body or lifestyle. It doesn’t matter if you spent your entire paycheck on one jacket ten years ago. It doesn’t matter if you bought it on sale because it looked great on the hanger and you love that designer. It doesn’t matter if you wore that pair of pants every day in college or that was the blouse you were wearing when you met your husband. If it does not look great and fit your life and body today, get rid of it! You cannot look forward to the future if you are stuck in the past so move ahead! Clear out your closet of these skeletons and treat yourself to a few well-calculated risks to perk up your closet! No risk is nothing more than boring and frumpy!
2. Women buy into trends that do not suit them. Stop worrying about the latest trends and wear colors that suit you. Wear styles that accentuate your body type. In other words, dress according to your personal style. Your clothes are your first introduction so have them represent who you really are. One of the largest mistakes that women make in the corporate world is failing to dress for the job they want. No one can see you on a career path if they can’t see past your clothing choices!
3. Women are hung up on the number! Who cares if it is a 2 or a 20? Buy the size that fits you right now, not “once you lose weight.” Be realistic and celebrate who you are, not who you think you should be! Life is going on while you were wishing you were in a different body! And there is nothing that is less appealing than seeing an otherwise beautiful woman bursting out of her clothes. It just looks uncomfortable and wrong.
4. Women who try to hide those extra pounds by wearing a parachute. Or men’s clothing. Or a dress that’s two sizes too big. Yes, you do want to “cover your issues” but be careful not to lose your assets at the same time! Accentuate curves show off your flattering features. Put a belt, scarf or bling where you want to draw someone’s eye!
5. Women who don’t wear the right foundation. Foundation is key to looking your best on the outside. Be sure that you are properly supported and there are no “mountain tops”, “headlights” “Uni-boobs” due to poor fitting bras or “muffin tops” or “whale tails” or “panty lines” from the wrong panties! 85% of women are wearing the wrong bra! The right fitting bra is just about the easiest way out there to lose 10-15 pounds!
6. Women do not get their clothes tailored properly. Good clothes were not made to fit properly off of the rack. When making a purchase, always buy clothes that are large enough to fit your most challenging areas. Look for clothes that are constructed well so that they can be taken in. A good seamstress will be able to fit the clothes to you so that you look tailored and sharp.
7. Women who do not build their wardrobe around the essential pieces. Women who do not invest in the essential pieces “never have a thing to wear”; are dated; or somehow always seem “out of place.” With these essential pieces of the highest quality you can possibly afford, your wardrobe will be ageless, timeless and transcend season and location. Those pieces are: a little black dress, a classic white shirt, a cashmere sweater, a trench coat, a pair of perfect jeans, a classic watch, a comfortable casual outfit, a dress or outfit to wear during the day, and a great pair of classic neutral pants. Beyond that, a great purse, a pair of shoes, a good watch and a piece of quality jewelry and you are ready to face any fashion situation!
8. Women who do not properly accessorize. What I see most often is what I will call the “Britney Spears” look… her clothes look like she just fell out of the hay and threw on some exorbitantly expensive sunglasses and handbag. Balance, balance! Don’t bring attention to the fact that you are dressed like a slob by sporting fancy blings! How about a great pair of jeans and a white shirt or cashmere sweater, some ballet flats and that same handbag and sunglasses? Now that will turn some heads for the “wow” factor!
9. Women who do not dress appropriately for their age. Women who dress twenty years younger than their age don’t look youthful or fun. They look cheap! Dressing for your age shows that you are confident and sophisticated. In no way does this mean to dress frumpy. Quite the opposite, youth should give way to elegance!
10. Women who are fashion victims. Fashion victim is a term to describe women who drop large amounts of disposable income on today’s trend that will be gone tomorrow. Where is the creativity in that? Where is the sense of style? Do you ever wonder why they take the store tags off of their clothes and accessories? Why not just wear your clothes inside-out and remove any mystery as to what you paid for your outfit? Or better yet, donate that money to your favorite charity and leave a true mark in the world!
