The Perfect Bra Fit
Depending on which statistics you look at, roughly 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong bra. This has a number of results. Some are very noticeable and others are creating neck pain. Occasionally, I see women with bruises and sores under their breasts. Either they have been forced to wear what is at the store instead of the right fit or they have not been properly measured for the right bra. The obvious results that we all see everyday..... The "Uni-Boob" --women who are smashed into a bra so that nothing bounces or moves, but that does not have the right uplift. Sports bras are great for workouts but they actually add weight to your look so don't kill yourself at the gym and lose the results wearing the wrong bra!!! Headlights--women who wear bras without proper coverage or no bra at all often give us the "headlights" effect. Everyone can see everything right through the t-shirt or beautiful blouse you are wearing. Or, the bra has seams or lace that you can see right through your blouse or t-shirt. When you are wearing a form revealing top, be sure to wear a good sculpted and seamless bra so that the emphasis is on you, not your undergarments (or lack thereof). "The Mountain Top"--wearing a cup size that is too small so that the girls are spilling out, either over the top or out of the sides. Perky is great, falling out is not. The most prevalent mistake that I see in my business (where I have measured hundreds of women) is the sagging breasts that come from band size too large and cup size too small. Your bra should be snug in the back when you first try it on. You should be fitted from the loosest hooks so that as the bra stretches, you can still have a snug fit. Other common side effects of the "band size too small, cup size too big" syndrome are back fat showing, bra straps slipping, sore necks and back aches! Sometimes, fit is challenging. There are a few reasons for this. Band sizes are 32, 34, 36 and so on... Guess what? Half of women are 31, 33, 35, and so on. Sometimes, it works okay to go up a band size. Most of the time, the answer is a bra extender, which actually allows the band to be adjusted up. Over time, the bra will stretch and then the extender may not be necessary. A good bra fitter will have this option available to ensure the best fit. Another frequent challenge is that shoulders are narrower than the back. Over time, women may have sloping shoulders as well. These can lead to slipping straps. There are options for this. First, a bra with a racer back or cross straps may be the answer. Another possibility is to use a bra strap clip to hold the straps in place. And, you don't have to have sloping shoulders to consider these options....how about that cute sleeveless top that doesn't look so great because of the "peek a boo" bra strap? A bra stap clip is often a great fix! Lack of size availability. So few stores have every size available. You may be able to find a 32A but not a 32D. You may be able to find a 44D but not a 44B. I can't tell you how many women make adjustments by wearing the wrong band size to accomodate their cup size. OR they wear the right band size and are lost in their cup size because it is way too big! All bras are not the same! There are bras for women with large frame, small frames, medium frames. Short shoulders, broad backs and every imaginable body shape. A professional bra fitter will help you to select the right bra for your body size, shape and lifestyle. She has the knowledge, ongoing training and the products to fit every need
