Best Dressed Resolutions for 2008

Top Ten “Best Dressed” Resolutions for 2008

Welcome to the New Year! This is the year to lose that 10 pounds or more, right? The question is, have you fallen off your diet yet? Did you ever start?
Wait, Wait, Wait! The most pressing question is…are you wearing the right clothes to make the most of the assets you have right now? Are you wearing clothes that best consider your lifestyle?
Stop working so hard to hide your perceived flaws and look to enhance your assets! It is a great place to start!
#10 Wear what looks GREAT on your GREAT body, right here, right now!
Forget the label size. Forget what you like on a hanger! Stop hiding in something that resembles a burlap bag or trying to shove your body into the same dress size you wore to the senior prom! -Try everything on for proper fit before you buy it. Walk around in it. Sit down in it. Move around in it. How does it drape? How does it feel? How does it look? If you don’t feel comfortable trying things on, then measure your body and then measure clothes before you buy them.
#9 Only wear clothes that are right for your body shape
Recognize that proportion is generally NOT affected by weight loss or gain and is the first thing that is noticed in stature. Proportion is most improved by clothing choices. Pay close attention to your arm and leg proportion and find a fit that is complementary, most typically accentuating what is longest. Look at your chest, waist and hip measurements and think about how your body is proportioned. Let’s be real here. More than 90% of us are an odd assortment of body parts. We might as well just work it to our best advantage.
#8 Take some time to strategically de-clutter your closets.
Edit. Edit. Edit. Think about what you have worn recently. Or not… What is in style, what fits you and what needs to be repaired. Your daily wardrobe regimen should begin with an ordered closet. Find a friend to help or better yet, invest in the time of a professional organizer. You will more than make up the money spent with the new outlook that you have on entering your closet!
#7 Stop buying items on impulse that you absolutely love only to have it sit in your closet unworn.
Who were you thinking of when you bought that piece? Probably not you. What’s your style? Are you CLASSIC? ROMANTIC? CREATIVE? DRAMATIC? NATURAL? or ELEGANT/SPORTY? Think about it before you make that next impulse purchase…life’s too short to wear someone else’s clothing!
#6 Think about the image are you projecting with your choice of colors.
Look carefully at the colors that you are wearing to be sure they are best for your skin tone. Put the clothes on and think about the image that your colors project: Confident? Serene? Professional? Feminine?
#5 Banish the thought that clothing fits perfectly off the rack.
Unless your outfit is a sweatshirt or a rain poncho (and then you have a DIFFERENT issue, see #2 above!), a good seamstress is your best friend! Purchase clothing that is generous in size. Are your hips difficult to fit or do you have a bit of a stomach. If so, fit the challenging part of your body and then alter. Take a look at the construction. How well will this alter? Does it have princess seams or pockets and zippers that will be difficult to work around? Fit consultation and alterations are the greatest gift a true stylist will give to their clients.
#4 Carefully consider what lies beneath that exquisite suit or cocktail dress.
There is no greater fashion emergency than bad foundation. Good foundation lifts without pinching, supports without spilling, firms without stuffing you like a sausage roll and turns a great outfit into a show-stopper! And it feels great all day, without slipping, riding up, or sticking out! If you have not been measured in the last twelve months, the time is now! Call me and we’ll set a time for a complimentary private fitting!
#3 Shoes are not only important in their supporting role but the right shoe can change the way a body looks!
Think about the color, the construction, the fit, the heel height and the heel width. It can change the entire look of an outfit or the person wearing them.
#2 Select jewelry and accessories carefully to highlight your assets, not accentuate your faults.
Select the right jewelry to frame your face. Be careful that it is not too chunky for your frame or the wrong length so to draw the eye to the wrong place. Also, a belt will draw the eye to where it sits, so make sure that it is the right width, and placement to accent your assets!
And….
NUMBER 1…DRESS FOR THE JOB YOU WANT, NOT THE JOB YOU HAVE! If you can’t imagine yourself in the job of your dreams, no one else can either. Be sure that you have the right essential pieces which begin with a good pair of basic pants, a white blouse, a little black dress, a good pair of jeans that look and feel great, a trench coat, and a well tailored jacket and a bonus item such as a sweater set. Be sure that if it in classic, it is not frumpy, if it is modern, you are dressing for your age and environment and that you limit trendy to statement pieces (unless of course, your dream is to be a rock star!)
HAVE A FABULOUS 2008!
